The artist Jared French made this painting, State Park, thinking about visits he made to the beach with his wife Margaret, and his artist friend Paul Cadmus. They would take pictures of themselves at the beach in different poses—sitting or standing in different ways. The artist would then use these “poses” from the photographs in his paintings.
