Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Gallery and Theater
The ninth Shout in this cycle of twelve rituals celebrates the Vernal Equinox and signals the beginning of the third year of the project. The start of spring and the exact balance of night and day is marked at 12:15 pm EDT on March 20, 2018. There will be four performances throughout the afternoon at 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, and 6 pm.
In the Museum’s theater, audience members are invited to move rhythmically to music composed by the artist Milica Paranosic, in preparation for a futuristic seed-planting ceremony in a familiar subterranean chamber. Flashes of red from deep in the Earth encourage us to take action in calling forth new life. As the threshold of spring is crossed, the air warms, conjuring fertility and prosperity, in anticipation for the approaching season of growth.
12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm
Doors open at 30 minutes prior to each start time. Late arrivals will not be admitted.
Tickets are required ($10 adults; $8 members, students and seniors). Capacity is limited. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.
