Spotlight Tours of Laura Owens and Where We Are: Selections from the Whitney's Collection, 1900–1960

Location: Floors Five and Seven

Patron, Circle, Fellow, and Sponsor members

Join us for a Whitney teaching fellow-led tour exploring the painting of Laura Owens, as well as select works from the Whitney’s collection. At the onset of her career in the mid-nineties, during a time when many in the critical establishment viewed painting with suspicion, Owens embraced the medium. Her early works demonstrate her keen interest in how paintings relate to their surroundings and reflect her knowledge of art history and abstraction. The tour will touch on a few paintings currently on view in Where We Are: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1900–1960, providing a historical counterpoint to Owen’s work.
