New Theater: Apartment (Mother Courage)

Fri, Oct 23, 2015
8 pm

Floor Three, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

Established in 2013 by American artists Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff, New Theater has mounted plays within a converted storefront in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood for the past two years. Their work is built fundamentally on collaborations—inviting other artists, writers, and musicians to contribute to the scripts, sets, props, soundtracks, and as performers. As a final project after closing their theater this year, New Theater will present a new version of their play Apartment in the Whitney's theater. As with their Berlin-based shows, they will build the community around this new work in real time by transporting their highly local ethos to New York. This shift in locale will serve as a moment of reflection upon their past productions.

October 17–18, 23–24*
