My name is Jaydee, and I am a senior and art major at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School. I am originally from a small West Indian island called St. Kitts, but I moved here to New Yorkwhen I was eleven years old. From a young age I was always interested in art. I would doodle and draw for hours and days, and I developed my skills over the years.
I heard about Youth Insights through my mom. I enjoy hearing the opinions of others artists and exploring art. My greatest inspiration comes from others around me. Hearing what others think and combining those opinions with my own analysis has greatly improved not only my artwork, but also my perception of the world. One of my favorite artists is Georgia O’Keeffe, whose work was actually on view in the first exhibition I saw at the Whitney. Edward Hopper is also a favorite. I have seen his show at the Museum and I’ve used his pieces as inspiration in my own artwork. I intend to go to college to study graphic design. Some graphic designers that really inspire me are Wolfgang Weingart, Erik Nitsche, Avinoam Noma Bar and Paula Scher. I hope to gain some useful skills from the Youth Insights Program. I intend to walk away with something valuable.
