In fall 2011, YI Leaders planned and hosted public events for New York City teens related to the exhibitions Lyonel Feininger: At the Edge of the World and David Smith: Cubes and Anarchy. They acted as hosts and assistants during the culminating exhibitions for Youth Insights Artists and Writers and participated in two mural projects at DETAILS Magazine’s DETAILS Guild Wall.
In spring 2012, Leaders met with Biennial 2012 curators and artists to gain a deeper understanding of works in the exhibition, led tours of the show for youth groups from other New York museums, and organized teen events with exhibiting artists Nicole Eisenman, Elaine Reichek, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Matt Porterfield. They also planned and hosted a themed party inspired by Alexander Calder’s Calder’s Circus (1926-31) to celebrate the opening of the Whitney Studio.
