2010 De-Tour for the Non-Tourist

Inspired by artist-in-residence Lize Mogel, who explores complex places and ideas through radical cartography, YI Writers created artwork that reflected their own neighborhoods and communities. As natives of one of the world’s premiere tourist destinations, the YI Writers drew on their unique knowledge and experiences to create a “de-tour” guide to New York City. Using various materials and methods, including photography, storytelling, and sound, YI Writers captured personal, significant parts of New York that would normally remain unseen by tourists.
