Teens in the YI Writers program explored and discussed 2010 artist James Casebere’s large-scale color photographs Landscape with Houses (Dutchess County, NY) #1 and Landscape with Houses (Dutchess County, NY) #2. The artist constructs detailed tabletop models that he then carefully lights and photographs to create images that blend reality and fiction and invite the viewer to project into the space. The YI Writers wrote short stories depicting the lives of the inhabitants of Casebere’s fabricated world, and then took their Polaroid cameras to the streets to capture a single representative image to accompany their work.
