In this collaborative project, the YI Writers explored how abstraction can be used to communicate subjective personal experiences. They began by writing detailed objective descriptions about a place to which they felt a strong emotional connection. Each description became a prompt for another teen, who then wrote a subjective composition that attempted to capture the feeling of the place. Finally, the subjective writing was passed on to a third teen, who used it as inspiration for an abstract painting in which they used colors, shapes, and lines to convey emotion.
