Whitney Family Day 2009

Saturday, October 3, 2009, 1–4 pm
For families with kids ages 5–12

Families are invited to explore the abstractions of Georgia O’Keeffe through interactive gallery tours, hands-on art making, and much more!

  • Discover O’Keeffe’s lines, colors, and landscapes through guided gallery tours.
  • Look closely at natural objects and create your own abstract work of art.
  • Work with artist collectives Windowfarms.org and Plant Parenthood to plant your own natural landscape for your home!

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is $10 per family
Free for member families

Hear the Dan Graham collaborators—and innovative punk band—perform Rock and Roll Ice Cream

Explore the sculptures of artist Dan Graham through his sources of inspiration from punk rock to cartoons

  • Make your own music!
  • Move to your own beat!
  • View animated shorts!
  • Create your own comic book zine!

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is $10 per family (free for member families). A family ticket is valid for up to 2 adults; children under 12 always receive free admission. $5 admission for additional adults.

WhitneyKids At the circus

ninth annual free family day

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 10 am–2 pm
For families with kids ages 5–12

Kids and their parents are invited to come and discover Calder’s Circus through hands-on art-making activities, performance, and live music.

  • March to a different tune with circus parade performances by the Hungry March Band.
  • Meet artist Corin Hewitt as he works on his unusual installation in the Lobby Gallery.
  • Marvel as artist Colin Gee performs throughout the museum with his traveling stage.
  • Make your own art work inspired by Calder’s drawings and sculptures.
  • Mingle with live circus performers, and much more!

WhitneyKids at the Circus Ninth Annual Free Family Day October 25, 2008

In this video, families participate in the WhitneyKids at the Circus Family Day in fall 2008. Kids explore the galleries with their parents, draw in their Calder Family Guides, create objects out of wire, get their faces painted, watch performances by clowns from the Big Apple Circus, and dance to music by the Hungry March Band.
