Conceived by artist Jeffrey Gibson, An Indigenous Present features an intergenerational group of Indigenous North American artists, musicians, filmmakers, choreographers, architects, writers, photographers, designers, and more to reflect the diverse and expanding field of Indigenous creative practices.

To celebrate the publication of this landmark volume, Gibson, co-editor Jenelle Porter, and contributing artist Dyani White Hawk join in conversation with Scott Rothkopf, the Whitney’s Alice Pratt Brown Director.

The discussion will explore Gibson’s motivations for making the book and how it was shaped by the contributing artists. Gibson and White Hawk will also speak about their individual practices and share their perspectives on the expanding field of art by Indigenous makers.

The conversation will be followed by a book signing and reception.
