This single-session course explores Ruth Asawa Through Line with a unique, behind-the-scenes look at artworks from the artist’s decades-long drawing practice. The program provides an overview of the exhibition, with detailed attention given to the artist’s stylistic, formal, and technical choices. By closely examining Asawa’s prints, drawings, and paper sculptures in the Whitney’s Sondra Gilman Study Center, we consider how the artist developed her evocative visual language through both direct observation and meticulous experimentation.
The course is led by Curator Kim Conaty and Conservator Clara Rojas-Sebesta, with Scout Hutchinson, Curatorial Fellow.
This virtual session includes time for questions from attendees.
Kim Conaty is the Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings and Prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
